Club Bylaws

Use the Club Bylaws Template

Your club bylaws are a set of requirements that govern how your club will act. All clubs must use the Bylaw Builder (updated April 2022) to create bylaws that meet the requirements of Cal Poly and the CSU.

By using the Bylaw Builder, you ensure that you are meeting the requirements from Cal Poly and the CSU. Submit your completed Petition for University Recognition and your bylaws together during one of the time periods that petitions are accepted, as posted on Your Go-To Guide to Starting a Club. The Clubs & Organizations Office will review petitions and contact your club representative with questions, feedback, or required bylaws changes.

Avoid common mistakes.

These common mistakes must be corrected before a petition can be considered. Avoid delays by adhering to the following:

  • Club membership and officer positions must be open to all students.
Clubs may not require officers to be enrolled in a certain major or standing in school. For instance, "Must be enrolled in engineering," and "Must be a junior or above," are not permitted. However, it is acceptable to require previous involvement in the club. For example, "Must have been a club member for one year," is permitted.
  • Clubs may not use Venmo.
To collect dues, you can accept cash, check, and ASI PayPal. Venmo and other digital funds transfer services are not allowed.
